A DETAINEE who escaped from custody during a transfer at Sungai Buloh Prison on April 9 was recaptured yesterday along Jalan Batu 14, Jalan Gombak Lama, bringing a nine-day search operation to an end.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that the suspect was apprehended at about 5pm following coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies.

In a statement, Shazeli thanked members of the public and all parties involved in assisting the police during the manhunt.

"The assistance provided was crucial in ensuring the prisoner was successfully recaptured to maintain public safety and order," he said.

The detainee, a Pakistani national, was reported to have escaped during a transfer process within the prison compound after attending proceedings at the Shah Alam Court on April 9.

According to the Prisons Department, the incident occurred at about 6pm when the detainee was being moved following the conclusion of his trial.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the escape, but investigations are ongoing. - April 19, 2026
