KJ: 'Up to the party to decide if I contest in Negeri'
"I don't know, ask the party," he said simply when met by reporters today.

FORMER Rembau Member of Parliament, Khairy Jamaluddin, has left it to the party leadership to decide whether he will contest the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) scheduled to be held on August 1.

Asked about the possibility of him contesting in Negeri Sembilan, Khairy said that the matter depends on the party.

"I don't know, ask the party," he said simply when met by reporters today.

However, when asked about his involvement in the Johor PRN, he said he would surely help with the campaign.

"I will be there," he said.

It was earlier reported that the UMNO Supreme Council (MT) recorded 6,252 applications from former members who wanted to rejoin the party, in addition to those from new members.

Among them are former Foreign Minister, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar; former Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Khairy, who is also the former UMNO Youth Chief. – June 22, 2026
