PAS vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah’s remarks that three years is enough for a government to show what it can do have prompted social media users to turn the same question back on PAS’ own record in Kelantan.

Mohd Amar was reported as saying that a three-year period should be sufficient for a government to implement initiatives and fulfil its responsibilities to the people.

He also suggested that leaders should not need to ask for more time if they were genuinely carrying out the responsibilities entrusted to them.

The remarks, however, drew a different response from users on the Harakah Daily Facebook page, where the report was shared.

Rather than focusing solely on the PH administration, several commenters began questioning PAS’ performance in Kelantan, where the party has remained in power continuously since 1990.

The state’s long-running water problems were among the issues raised.

Some users questioned why residents continue to face concerns over water supply despite PAS having had more than three decades to deal with the issue.

The Kota Bharu Sentral bus terminal project was also mentioned.

Users pointed to the lengthy delay involving the project, which was first announced in 2010, questioning why a major public transport facility has taken so long to reach completion.

Others went further, questioning PAS’ ambition to take over Putrajaya while some basic issues affecting people in Kelantan remain unresolved.

For them, the question was not simply whether three years was enough time for PH to deliver, but whether PAS should be held to the same standard after governing Kelantan for about 36 years.

The comments effectively turned Mohd Amar’s argument into a comparison with PAS’ own record.

If three years is considered sufficient for a government to demonstrate progress, critics argue that PAS has had considerably more time to tackle issues involving water supply, public transport and other basic infrastructure in Kelantan.

The issue also highlights the difficulty of putting a fixed timeframe on government performance.

What may be considered enough time for one administration can easily become a benchmark against another, particularly when the party making the argument has itself held power at state level for decades.

For now, the reaction to Mohd Amar’s remarks has shifted the conversation beyond PH’s three-year record, with PAS’ lengthy tenure in Kelantan becoming part of the debate.

And for critics, the question is straightforward: if three years is enough to judge a government, how should a party’s performance be assessed after 36 years in power? – August 24, 2026
