KOTA KINABALU – Food baskets are meant only for the hardcore poor and Sabahans unable to work as they are under quarantine, said state Community Development and People’s Well-being Minister Shahelmey Yahya today.

He said most people can continue with their jobs under the conditional movement control order (CMCO), a relaxed iteration of the Covid-19 restrictions imposed nationwide in March.

“For those in areas under the targeted enhanced movement control order, all families will receive food baskets.

“For districts under the CMCO, (food baskets will be given to) only families where the whole household is quarantined.”

The new Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government has come under fire over its targeted food aid, with some quarters pointing out that the previous Warisan administration had distributed it to all residents.

Shahelmey said 55,844 food baskets have been distributed in 11 districts, namely Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak, Tawau, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, Papar, Tuaran and Kalabakan. – The Vibes, October 18, 2020
