KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was this morning admitted to a hospital here for diarrhoea.
The Prime Minister’s Office, in a brief statement, said he has been unwell since last night.
“He is being treated and monitored for his condition.”
Following the statement, it is learnt that the weekly cabinet meeting scheduled for today has been postponed.
The hashtags #PMCirit and #KerajaanCirit have taken Malaysian Twitter by storm.
PMO last commented on Muhyiddin’s health in January, when it quashed rumours that he was still undergoing treatment for cancer.
Describing the claims as untrue and spread with ill intention, it said: “The prime minister has been confirmed free from cancer by the medical experts who treated him.”
On Wednesday, Muhyiddin announced the RM150 billion Economic Recovery and People’s Protection Package (Pemulih) as part of the government’s latest round of Covid-19 stimulus.
He has also been taken to task by the opposition and public-interest groups calling for the immediate reopening of Parliament, which has been suspended since the emergency declared over the pandemic took effect on January 12.
The emergency is scheduled to be lifted on August 1.
Yesterday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong reiterated the need for the House to reconvene as soon as possible, with Covid-19 standard operating procedures in place.
“This is so that the proclamation of emergency and emergency ordinances can be debated in Parliament, as stated in Article 150(3) of the federal constitution,” said Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin in a statement.
“Besides that, His Majesty has expressed his view that all select committees of the 14th Parliament should continue their meetings, acting as a check-and-balance mechanism.” – The Vibes, June 30, 2021
