GEORGE TOWN – A kitchen at Penang Hospital was ordered shut on Wednesday after its workers tested positive for Covid-19, as the state continues to record three-digit daily cases.

The “kitchen” infections are considered a blow to Penang’s efforts to manage the pandemic, as the hospital is the state’s main facility for treating Covid-19 patients.

Major German factory B. Braun Medical Industries Sdn Bhd at the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone was also ordered shut yesterday.

Penang exco Jagdeep Singh Deo said two Covid-19 deaths were reported last night, bringing the death toll to 122 in the state.

Penang recorded 142 new coronavirus cases today, taking its caseload to 35,162.

Of the 1.7 million population, a million individuals have already registered for vaccination in the state.

Jagdeep also urged residents in Taman Nagasari, Seberang Prai Tengah, to comply with set guidelines after the vicinity was placed under an enhanced movement control order due to a spate of new infections.

Local authorities have also closed 1,812 premises for violating standard operating procedures since enforcement began in March last year. – The Vibes, July 3, 2021
