KUALA LUMPUR – MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong has challenged a blog owner to come forward after allegations that he received RM2 million from fugitive Nicky Liow to settle an assault case years ago.

In a press conference yesterday, Chong was quoted as saying by The Star that he will take legal action against the anonymous blog owner or writer, adding that “the person is nothing but a coward”.

“This is not true. It is a blatant lie. Whoever is behind this blog is seeking to harm my reputation. I challenge the blog owner or writer to come forward. The person is nothing but a coward for making such a baseless allegation.

“As for me, I have nothing to hide. I did not do the things that the blog alleged.”

An online blog alleged that it has proof that Liow gave the MCA man RM2 million through Chong’s lawyer to settle a case after Liow was accused of assaulting Rela personnel in 2017.

The blog also called for Chong and two others to be detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

During the presser, Chong said lawyers Datuk Michael Wong, PY Leong and James Ee held a watching brief for Rela during Liow’s trial in 2018.

In 2017, Liow was arrested for assaulting Rela members who were on duty at the Kou Ong Yah temple here before being acquitted and discharged.

Earlier this year, Johor police arrested 68 people linked to Geng Nicky under Sosma, and Liow is wanted for money-laundering and commercial crime syndicate activities, as well as for having links to international gangs and drug-trafficking activities.

In April, 16 members of Geng Nicky, including Liow and his brothers, were charged in the Petaling Jaya sessions court over their involvement in organised crime and money-laundering activities.

Liow and gang member Niu Zhe – who is a China national – were charged in absentia under Section 130V of the Penal Code as members of an organised criminal group.

The two are still at large but if found guilty, they will face 20 years’ imprisonment. – The Vibes, October 9, 2021
