KUALA LUMPUR – A total of RM2.5 billion has been allocated to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, with about RM1.5 billion going to the development of rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz in tabling Budget 2022 today said East Malaysia’s allocation will be used to build 519km of rural and village roads, benefiting 130,000 people.
Meanwhile, RM382 million will be spent on improving water supply in rural areas, and an alternative water supply that is expected to benefit around 4,800 households.
On the rural electrification plan, RM485 million will go to 2,100 homes, he said.
“Additionally, RM107 million will go to installing 107 street lamps, maintaining more than 500,000 existing street lamps, 20 bridge repairs, and early work on 30 new bridges in rural areas.” – The Vibes, October 29, 2021
