KUALA LUMPUR – All the individuals in a video of a man with cerebral palsy getting hit are suffering from mental disabilities, said the charity home involved.

The video was initially shared by Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi on her Twitter page, and she revealed that the incident took place at Rumah Amal Murni Kajang.

Rumah Amal Murni Kajang executive committee member Tan Ket Oon told The Vibes that the incident happened a week ago and all the individuals in the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage are the home’s residents and suffering from mental disabilities.

After being informed by staffers on the day of the incident, he said the two residents involved were brought to the hospital for examination.

The victim received treatment at Kajang Hospital, and was given painkillers and anti-swelling medication.

“The individual who was hitting the other man was previously a patient at Tg Rambutan Hospital some 10 years ago.

“After the incident, we made a police report and took the resident to Kajang Hospital because he can’t stay at the home until he is stabilised.”

Following documents sighted by The Vibes, Rumah Amal Murni Kajang filed a police report at 11.19am on December 15 to explain the incident. The report is also used to seek psychiatric treatment for the resident at the Kajang Hospital.

Tan said officers from the Social Welfare Department had met him to inquire into the matter as well.

When asked how the resident got hold of the brick, he said it was used as a door stopper.

Since the video was widely shared today, Tan said the charity home has been receiving threatening phone calls.

“We wanted to explain to the callers what had happened, but they refused to hear us out.

“There’s always context to the story, I hope people would understand after finding out what really transpired.” – The Vibes, December 31, 2021
