KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 96, is now undergoing rehabilitative treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) while making scheduled visits to his home from the hospital.
In a statement today, his office updated the public on his health after he was recently admitted to the institute for screening and treatment.
“Since February 2, Dr Mahathir has been allowed to return home and come back to IJN for further physiotherapy and additional medical procedures.
“Dr Mahathir and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali would also like to convey their gratitude to the public for the outpouring of prayers, well wishes, flower deliveries, and greeting cards,” it said.
The statement added that due to the ongoing medical treatment, the two-time prime minister and current chairman of Pejuang is still prohibited from receiving visitors.
According to Datin Marina Mahathir, Dr Mahathir’s daughter, his latest admission into IJN happened on January 20 as part of a follow-up treatment to an elective procedure he underwent on January 8.
On January 22, she had said Dr Mahathir was in a stable condition following the admission and that he was responding well to the treatment administered.
Just the next day, Marina found herself compelled to advise the public not to heed rumours about her father’s wellbeing, saying that she and her family would be the ones providing official updates on his condition.
On January 26, Marina had said that her father had been transferred out of the Cardiac Care Unit and to an ordinary ward at IJN after his condition had continued to improve. – The Vibes, February 4, 2022
