3.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Beluran, Sabah

KOTA KINABALU – Beluran was hit by a minor earthquake, measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale tonight.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had reported in a statement that the quake occurred at 8.39pm.

The district, located in the Sandakan division of Sabah, lies roughly 281km east of Kota Kinabalu.

An alert released by MetMalaysia at 8.58pm revealed the epicentre was located at a depth of 7km, some 47km east of Pitas.

“Tsunami: tremors may be felt in Beluran and around Beluran. The Department will continue to monitor the situation closely,” it said in a statement tonight. – The Vibes, March 28, 2022
