KUALA LUMPUR – A syndicate behind the smuggling and trafficking of various types of drugs, some which were packed in Chinese tea packets, was crippled by police during two raids in Kedah and Selangor respectively.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigations Department director Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the drugs were allegedly imported from one of the three Golden Triangle nations, stored in residential homes in the two states before being distributed and sold locally and internationally.
“Some of the drugs were also meant for the Indonesian market,” Ayob added.
The drugs seized include heroin, ecstasy and methamphetamine crystals. The crystals were packaged in Chinese tea packets.
Ayob said the total value of drugs seized is estimated at RM25.35 million and would have been able to satiate at least 3.4 million addicts.
He said a first raid in Selangor yesterday yielded RM16.4 million worth of drugs: 404kg of methamphetamines, 7.7kg of heroin and 35.3kg in ecstasy pills, along with the arrest of a local 40-year-old man.
A second raid in Selangor and Kedah this morning saw the arrest of another four locals, a woman and three men aged 25 to 39, and 248.7kg of methamphetamines worth RM8.95 million seized.
“We believe this syndicate had been active since the end of 2021, and we are still on the hunt for remaining members at large,” he added, without clarifying if the ringleader was among those arrested.
Police also seized four vehicles worth RM360,000, which include a Toyota Fortuner, Kia Optima, Mitsubishi Triton and a Ford Ranger during the raids.
Ayob said checks showed two of the arrested suspects had prior criminal records, also for drug-related offences. – The Vibes, June 3, 2022
