AMPANG – Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is set to defend the Ampang parliamentary seat for the upcoming 15th general election.
The matter was announced by Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad during a press conference at the party’s Bukit Antarabangsa district machinery centre, today.
“I can confirm today, as of now, the parliamentary seat will be defended by PBM president Zuraida,” he said.
When asked by reporters on whether discussions have been held with Barisan Nasional (BN) on PBM’s decision to field Zuraida in Ampang, Hizwan said all discussions have taken place.
During the 14th general election, Zuraida, who was PKR vice-president, won the seat with 41,956 vote-majority in a four-cornered fight.
She had defeated Leong Kim Soon from BN, Nurul Islam Mohammed Yusoff (PAS), and Tan Hua Meng (Parti Rakyat Malaysia).
However, in 2020, she left the party and joined Bersatu under the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Earlier this month, Zuraida was reportedly appointed as PBM president replacing Datuk Larry Sng.
Zuraida was previously reported as saying that Malaysia is a democratic country, and anyone can compete in Ampang.
She added that she will welcome any challenger to the constituency that she has represented since being first elected in 2008. – The Vibes, October 28, 2022
