KUALA LUMPUR – The Pandan parliamentary seat will witness a five-cornered fight involving Pakatan Harapan (PH), Warisan, Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Pejuang.
The constituency will see PKR’s Rafizi Ramli, Warisan’s Tan Sri Ong Tee Keat, MCA’s Leong Kok Wee, PAS’ Muhammad Rafique Zubir Albakri and Pejuang’s Nadia Hanafiah taking on each other in the upcoming polls.
Returning officer Julaihah Jamaluddin said the nomination forms were received, with each of the candidates submitting their forms between 9.02am and 9.20am.
“After going through all the forms, I’m satisfied and no candidates have been rejected,” she announced.
Malaysia will hold the polls on November 19, with early voting taking place on November 15.
During the last parliamentary term, the seat was held by PKR advisor Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who garnered a 52,543 majority.
Prior to Dr Wan Azizah, Rafizi had also won the seat under the PKR banner in 2013.
Meanwhile, MCA’s Leong Kok Wee, when met by reporters, said that all five candidates for the Pandan seat stand a fair chance to win, but it would be a tough call for the voters this time around as all the candidates are quite remarkable.
“All the candidates have a fair chance to win and this time, we have a lot of luminaries such as Tee Keat and Rafizi, where all of us are doing our best for the stability of the country. But it’s up to the voters – it’s a fair game for all of us. We’re all gentlemen,” he said.
Ong had held Pandan for BN-MCA for three terms from 2004 to 2013 when he was defeated by Rafizi.
Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the nomination, Rafizi said that this election is exceptionally critical seeing that it is the first time that 18-year-olds have been automatically registered as voters.
“Everyone is given the chance, opportunity to make their choices,” he stated. – The Vibes, November 11, 2022
