KUALA LUMPUR – A large number of disheartened Umno supporters and members have left the party’s state headquarters in Ipoh after realising how badly they are performing at state level in Perak.

Sources told The Vibes and Getaran that even caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad is allegedly facing difficulty defending his Kota Tampan state seat.

“It’s tough in Kota Tampan, even for the MB. He will win but maybe marginally.

“He is not holding any press conferences and many party members and supporters have left our state party headquarters for home,” said the source who requested anonymity.

“I think we are losing a lot of sets. I think we’ve been defeated in Kenering, even in Lenggong.

“From the central party headquarters, I heard we have lost Ketereh, Shahril (Sufian) Hamdan has been taken down and even (Datuk Seri) Reezal Merican (Naina Merican). The only good news I heard is that KJ (Khairy Jamaluddin) has won.”

Another source added that originally, Saarani had planned on holding a press conference to announce the party’s victory.

However, after realising the possibility of a devastating defeat, the caretaker menteri besar had it cancelled.

When asked about the result, the source said: “I think at most Barisan Nasional can win 20 state seats – which they lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN). But even PN cannot win up to 20 seats.

“From the looks of things, I think Pakatan Harapan will hold the majority of the state seats.”

In total, Perak has 59 state seats and a simple majority to form a government requires 30 seats. – The Vibes, November 19, 2022
