KUALA LUMPUR – The government, through the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), is suing International Marketing and Net Resources Sdn Bhd (Iman) and its directors over unpaid taxes amounting to RM1.65 million.

According to the statement of claim filed on July 30, Nor Aziah Aziz and Mohd Mansor Sharif were named as second and third defendants, and share-owning directors of Iman.

The IRB claims Iman's taxes for assessment year 2017 is estimated to be RM480,000.

Seven months later in September, Iman made amendments to the estimates, saying its income tax totalled RM750,000.

In April last year, in its tax declaration form, Iman represented that taxes to be paid for the assessment year 2017 was RM1.98 million.

However, the IRB last year presented a tax assessment amounting to RM2.178 million.

Iman then paid IRB RM750,033 for taxes owed for assessment year 2017, with a remaining RM1.428 million owed.

Now, the IRB is claiming a total of RM1.649 million, including interest.

In a statement of defence filed by third defendant Mansor, he said he is a non-executive director and is not authorised to handle matters involving taxation.

He pointed to Aziah and an individual named Datuk Azri Mohd Zain, said to be Iman’s executive director.

Iman was previously authorised by the government to provide services to legalise foreign workers under a rehiring programme.

However, Iman was named in an abuse of power investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), The Edge reported on July 2, 2018. – The Vibes, December 2, 2020
