MELAKA – Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datuk Shadan Othman has been appointed as the new mayor of Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) effective February 1.

Melaka Secretary Datuk Zaidi Johari said Shadan will replace Datuk Zainal Abu whose tenure ends on January 31.

“Following this, Jasin Municipal Council (MPJ) president Datin Sapiah Haron has been appointed as MPHTJ president effective the same date,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the senior assistant secretary at the local government unit of the Melaka Chief Minister’s Department, Rosemanizam Mohd Nalif @ Zawawi, has been appointed MPJ president to replace Sapiah, also effective the same date.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Abdul Karim remains as the president of Alor Gajah Municipal Council. “The Melaka government expresses its deepest appreciation and gratitude to Zainal for his dedication and contribution during his term as MBMB mayor.

“We also congratulate Shadan, Sapiah, Saifuddin, and Rosemanizam on their appointments,” he said. – Bernama, January 25, 2023
