JOHOR BARU – Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan has no clue as to why the party has issued a six-year suspension against him.
This is because, he said, he was never hauled up by Umno’s disciplinary board, or received any letter regarding his suspension.
“Maybe it’s because I resigned as information chief, and asked the president to take responsibility for our losses in the last general election as well as suggested making changes to the party,” he speculated in a video posted on his social media pages today.
However, he said it is too early to decide his next move as he still has affection for party members.
“God-willing, if i’m to become a fighter, I will not ‘gostan’ (make a U-turn).”
On whether he intends to appeal against his suspension, Shahril said he is hesitant to do so, claiming that his suspension did not conform to the right procedures.
He added that perhaps his suspension is a move by the party to quell dissent among its ranks.
“If my suspension didn’t follow the right procedures, how can an appeal suddenly correct things? Maybe they are hoping for us to remain quiet and stop rocking the boat.”
Other Umno members who received a six-year suspension from the party include Sembrong Umno chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Salim Sharif, and Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang.
Meanwhile, former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and former Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar were sacked from the party last night. – The Vibes, January 28, 2023
