KUALA LUMPUR – After yesterday’s snub, PAS has changed its mind on meeting Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, said its secretary-general, Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
In a statement last night, he said the central leadership has ordered its state assemblymen to head to Istana Kinta after receiving a royal decree.
When asked about a possible audience, a palace source told The Vibes, “so far, not that I know of”.
Takiyuddin added that PAS, as a party that respects and upholds the sovereignty of royal institutions, will ensure any related dealings are carried out with courtesy.
“On the issue of our attendance in Istana Kinta, PAS does not want to make mistakes in its decision-making, especially involving a decree from the sultan.
“We (central leadership) have ordered all PAS assemblymen to be present at the palace after receiving a decree to have an audience with the Sultan of Perak.”
He said PAS will endeavour to resolve the ongoing Perak menteri besar crisis with its Perikatan Nasional partners prudently, for the sake of religion, race and country.
Yesterday, The Vibes reported that Perak PAS withdrew its request to have an audience with Sultan Nazrin, where the party had been expected to inform the ruler of its support for or opposition to Umno’s menteri besar candidate.
The Islamist outfit had been scheduled to meet the sultan at Istana Kinta at 3pm yesterday, but a source told The Vibes that PAS reps received instructions from the central leadership to postpone the meeting.
“PAS has requested to withdraw their audience (with the sultan) at 3pm. They received instructions from the party’s central leadership requesting that the meeting today be put off."
Free Malaysia Today had reported state PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria as saying the chapter is still waiting for the green light from the central leadership to endorse an Umno-led administration.
He added PAS assemblymen will comply with instructions from the party’s top brass. – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
