HO CHI MINH CITY – The city here needs to draw up plans for the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, including ramping up efforts to seek vaccine sources, said Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh yesterday.

At a working session with representatives of the municipal Health Department, he said apart from priority groups, the city should also vaccinate workers, including industrial ones, and staff at state-designated quarantine facilities.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, he asked the city to continue protecting the health of medical frontliners by vaccinating them.

Municipal Health Department deputy director Tang Chi Thuong reported that as of yesterday, local hospitals were treating 221 coronavirus patients.

One is a severe case transferred from the southern province of Long An, he said, adding that the other patients are in stable condition.

Cu Chi Covid-19 Hospital is treating 100 patients and quarantining 1,200 returnees from abroad. The Can Gio facility has admitted 127 patients since March 6.

Thuong said the city is prepared for a scenario of 5,000 cases, with more than 1,900 ward beds, including 200 in intensive care, available. – Bernama, June 1, 2021
