A COUPLE accused of supplying firearms to an Israeli man faced charges at the Klang sessions court today.

Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, who turned 41 today, was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act (FIPAA) for possessing a 9mm CZ 75 pistol.

Her husband, Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, aged 43, was charged under Section 9 of the same act for being aware of her possession of the firearm.

The alleged offenses took place on March 29 at Kg Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor.

Both individuals pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

If convicted, they could face up to 14 years in prison and whipping.

Bail was not granted as FIPAA offences are non-bailable. The case is fixed for mention on June 11 before sessions judge Sharifah Hascindie Syed Omar.

Deputy public prosecutors Mohammad Fakhrurrazi Ahmad Salim and Fazeedah Faik led the prosecution against the couple, who were not represented in court.

Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the couple who allegedly supplied Israeli national Shalom Avitan with six pistols and 200 bullets will be charged in Klang today.

Avitan was arrested at a Kuala Lumpur hotel on March 27 and claimed to be in Malaysia to settle a family dispute by killing another Israeli citizen.

Razarudin also said that Avitan is expected to be charged later this week. – April 8, 2024.
