POLICE have arrested a headmaster to assist in an investigation into an alleged assault on a Year One pupil in Johor Bahru.
The incident reportedly occurred at a school canteen last Tuesday.
Johor Bahru Utara Police Chief ACP Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said a report was lodged by the seven-year-old victim’s 40-year-old father at about 9.46 am.
He said the investigation found that the victim was believed to have been beaten by the 48-year-old man while in the school canteen at about 7.39 am, the same day.
Acting on information, a police team from the criminal investigation division arrested the man at the Johor Bahru North District Police Headquarters compound at 4.55 pm to assist in the investigation.
“Initial checks revealed the suspect has no prior criminal record, and a urine screening test conducted was also negative," he said in a statement reported by Bernama.
Radin Ramlan said the suspect was brought to court and was remanded for three days until yesterday, before being released on police bail.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001.
