KUALA LUMPUR – Talks of a possible redevelopment of Kelab Darul Ehsan (KDE) golf club have got residents worried enough to bring it up at a hearing today at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ).
The issue is not on the hearing agenda that is meant for suggestions and objections over the MPAJ Local Plan 2035 draft.
However, this depends on whether the proceedings today will allow for the issue to be brought up appropriately.
The nine-hole golf course sits on 65 acres (26.3ha) of land and is flanked by forested areas and several affluent neighbourhoods. It is privately owned by Berjaya Land Bhd, which is a Berjaya Corp subsidiary.
The hearing is slated from 9am to 5pm at Menara MPAJ and is meant to include public participation in the council’s local town planning.
More than 600 people are expected to take part in the proceedings where a slew of local issues, including development, are expected to be deliberated.
The hearing will be chaired by Selangor’s Housing, Urban Well-being, and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Rodziah Ismail.
According to documents sighted by The Vibes, the redevelopment plan will see the golf club divided into several development parcels, including the construction of 243 bungalow units, 50 units of linked houses and a clubhouse.
The land that KDE sits on is currently zoned for sports and recreation. The developer will need at least two-thirds of support from the neighbouring communities to change its status to residential.
Documents sighted by The Vibes also indicated that Berjaya, through the club’s operator KDE Recreation Bhd, is attempting to meet with the stakeholders.
This includes the developer’s attempt to schedule a meeting with stakeholders last Saturday, which was cancelled at the last minute. – The Vibes, September 22, 2022
