KUALA LUMPUR – Umno will address the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s concerns over the current political situation which led to the dissolution of Parliament earlier today.
This is according to one of the party’s Supreme Council members, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who said that the party will be issuing a statement on the matter “later”.
“We don’t actually know what the Agong is upset about,” he told reporters after attending Umno’s political bureau meeting at the party’s headquarters here today.
“We’re not sure.”

He added that the contents of the king’s statement, issued today, had not been raised during the meeting.
“(The meeting earlier) did not discuss the Agong’s (expressed) disappointment,” he said.
In the statement, comptroller of the royal household of Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is disappointed with the political status quo, leaving the ruler with no choice but to consent to the prime minister’s request to dissolve Parliament.
The dissolution, effective today, was announced this evening by now-caretaker prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
By law, an election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution. It is widely speculated, however, that polling could be held in early November to avoid the peak of the year-end monsoon season. – The Vibes, October 10, 2022
