KOTA KINABALU – Unhappy with the planned cooperation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in Sabah, the United Sabah People’s Party (PBRS) will now bring its grouses to BN’s top leaders.
PBRS secretary-general Richard Kastum said the party’s supreme council had decided to bring the matter to BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said the reason party president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup had called for BN to go solo in Sabah was because the party was seeking more seats to contest in the general election.
“The supreme council today decided to (ask) the top leaders in BN to allocate PBRS with more seats to contest in the general election,” said Kastum in a statement today.
“Contrary to the perception of certain parties, PBRS has recruited many senior leaders from rival parties, increasing the party’s (membership) by many folds, as well as seeing the formation of the party’s divisions in almost all state constituencies.
“The supreme council also decided to send a delegate to discuss and voice the party’s grouses to Zahid soon,” he said.
The party is presently expected to contest only the Pensiangan parliamentary seat, PBRS’ traditional seat.
GRS and BN have not formalised their electoral cooperation nor have they announced the seat distributions between the two coalitions.
However, PBRS expects to get more seats to contest if BN decides to solo in Sabah.
PBRS had prior to this stated its disagreement on the cooperation between BN and GRS in the coming polls. – The Vibes, October 18, 2022
