KOTA KINABALU – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah’s (GRS) decision to support Perikatan Nasional (PN) is a declaration of war, said Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
He said GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has broken the GRS-BN electoral agreement to support BN after the general election. He also accused Hajiji of playing a role in bringing other MPs to the PN fold.
Bung was referring to the viral images of KDM MP Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (Kota Marudu) and two independents Datuk Verdon Bahanda (Kudat) and Riduan Rubin (Tenom) pledging their support for PN.
He was also referring to the viral photos showing KDM president Datuk Peter Anthony and Hajiji meeting with Muhyiddin last night.
He vowed consequences for the GRS-BN cooperation in Sabah due to these developments.
“He has declared war on us. Hajiji did not call me or discuss with me about GRS support for Perikatan,” he said.
BN won seven seats while GRS won six seats in Sabah under an electoral pact between the two ruling coalitions.
“It was clear that Hajiji and GRS had acted against the spirit of cooperation between GRS and Barisan that are ruling the state government since they successfully toppled the Warisan Plus state government during the September 2020 state snap election,” he said.
“Not now, we will look into it later,” he said without dismissing the possibility of withdrawing support for the state government.
GRS currently has 30 Sabah assemblymen while BN has 17, with both controlling 47 out of 79 seats.
The GRS-BN alliance also has six appointed assemblymen from various parties, including one from PAS.
Warisan has 19 assemblymen while Sabah Pakatan Harapan has seven. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
