KUCHING – Parti Bumi Kenyalang president Voon Lee Shan has been called to report to the Simpang Tiga police station here.
Voon, who was on his way to the police station, informed The Vibes that Pang Aik Hua, a member of his party, was already detained earlier.
“I am on my way to the station now. I believe, I too will be detained,” said Voon.
Earlier this evening, Voon cut a lone figure in a video clip with a loud hailer in hand calling out to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg saying: “We do not want Parti Islam in Sarawak.”
“We are a multi-racial society in Sarawak, respect us. Abang Jo, you must respect the wishes of Sarawakians,” he was heard saying in English with a handful of supporters around Carpenter Street.
Vehicles with banners saying “Say No to PAS’ were also seen in the 19-second video clip.
Voon, wearing a red long-sleeved shirt, was also clutching an umbrella.
Voon, a lawyer-politician, has been a very vocal self-styled independent fighter for Sarawak.
He stood in the 15th general elections in the Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat and lost.
Meanwhile, a planned peaceful protest set to take place here today was aborted by the organisers after police advised the “Saya Anak Sarawak” (SAS) group not to proceed with the event.
Organiser and founding member of SAS, Peter John Jaban, told The Vibes the event was organised to protest Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s desire to support Perikatan Nasional with PAS as a member of forming the federal government.
“I agreed to call off the event today as advised by police. We Sarawakians are a law-abiding people but do not push us too far,” Jaban said.
Jaban also said police told him not to disturb the peace or create chaos in the city. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
