KUCHING – Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas is looking forward to working closely with the relevant federal ministers to develop more road connectivity in Sarawak.

He said the ministers are Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the rural and regional development minister, and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Uggah, who is also the state infrastructure and ports development minister, hopes to discuss with Zahid ways to get more funds channelled to Sarawak for that purpose.

“We also have some proposals on how to speed up the implementation of our rural projects, and we believe we need to brief Zahid on the various issues we face implementing them,” he said in a statement after conducting his monthly monitoring of road and bridge construction projects in the Kuching and Samarahan divisions here today.

Uggah said that he had previously discussed such issues with the former rural development minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

On Nanta’s appointment as works minister, Uggah said he expects the Kapit MP to continue the efforts of the previous minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who has been appointed as deputy prime minister, and work together with the state to improve connectivity via federal roads.

“We are very thankful that a Sarawakian is again helming this very important ministry,” he said referring to Nanta’s new portfolio. – Bernama, December 5, 2022
