KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad have filed an appeal against the high court’s decision to reject their motion to review the sessions court order calling for their defence on three corruption charges involving a total of RM2.8 million relating to a RM150 million investment in a Public Mutual Berhad fund.

Deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How said when contacted by reporters that the appeal notice was filed at the Appeals Court last Friday.

He said currently the defence proceedings for both of the accused, set previously for January 3, 9 to 13, 2023, have been retained.

Bung Moktar and his wife lost their appeal for a review of the sessions court’s decision after judicial commissioner Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid allowed the initial objections from the prosecution against the motion.

Bung Moktar was charged on May 3, 2019 with two counts of receiving bribes of RM2.2 million and RM262,500 as inducements to obtain Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority’s approval to invest RM150 million in a Public Mutual trust fund.

He was also charged with receiving RM337,500 in cash from Unit Amanah consultant, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar, under Zizie’s name for the same reason, while Zizie faces three counts of abetting him in the matter. – Bernama, December 12, 2022
