Floods likely to hit six T’ganu, eight K’tan districts from tomorrow

KUALA TERENGGANU – Six districts in Terengganu and eight districts in Kelantan are expected to suffer floods from tomorrow based on the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s forecast simulation.

According to the department, the six affected districts in Terengganu are Kuala Terengganu, Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman, while in Kelantan, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Jeli, Kota Baru, Kuala Krai, Tumpat, Gua Musang and Machang will be affected.

In Besut, the areas expected face floods at 2am tomorrow include Kg Pinang, Bukit Puteri, Kg Bekok, Kg Cegar Kubor, Jambatan Keruak, Kg Cawangan and Kg Nail, while in Setiu, Kg Che Mohit, Kg Kubang Payu, Kg Banggol Setar, Kg Pengkalan Merbau, Kg Tasik, Kg Permaisuri, Kg Besut and Kg Pepari.

The high-risk areas in Hulu Terengganu are Kg Menerong, PPSK Menerong, Kg Pengkalan Ajal, Kg Pasir Pelata, Kg Tg Putat, Kg Lebak, Kg Pasir Simpul, Kg Tengkawang, Kg Kepah and Kg Baung, while in Dungun, Kg Shukor, Kg Dendang, Felda Jerangau, Kg Tepus, Kg Serdang and Kg Padang Pulut.

In Kemaman district, Felda Cherul, Kg Binjai, Kg Cheneh and Kg Pasir Gajah are among the areas to be flooded due to heavy rain that began today and is expected to last till Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the forecast floods in Kelantan are expected to hit in stages, between 7am and 4pm to midnight tomorrow, stretching till December 19 noon. 

The areas predicted to be flooded by 7am tomorrow include Kg Kubang Rambutan in Rantau Panjang (Pasir Mas district), as well as Kg Nibong and Kg Jenob (Tanah Merah district), while Sg Lanas (Jeli), Kg Bendang Guchil and Kg Rantau Panjang Lubok (Pasir Mas district) are expected to be hit by 4pm.

Areas including Kg Kuala Itik, Kg Limau Purut, Kg Pengkalan Piah, Kg Pengkalan Telok (Pasir Mas district), Kg Kedai Buloh, Kg Keladang, Jeti Kastam in Kota Baru district are expected to be hit by December 19 midnight.

Other areas that are likely to be flooded at midnight include Kg Batu Jong, Kg Hujong Tanjong, Kg Pusu Tujoh, Kg Kuala Gris (Kuala Krai district), Kg Kok Majid (Tumpat district), Kg Riek (Gua Musang), Kg Pasir Panji (Tanah Merah district), Kg Kerilla, Kg Paloh and Kg Hau in Machang district.

Meanwhile, at noon the same day, floods have been forecast to hit Kg Kubang Bual, Kg Kenor, Taman Sri Guchil, Kg Bukit Chengat, Kg Banggol Guchil (Kuala Krai district), Kubang Simpul, Kg Chabir (Tanah Merah district), Kg Teluk Renjuna, Kg Pulau Seratus, Kg Lubok Kawah (Tumpat district), Kg Tepi Sungai (Machang), Kg Lakat, Kg Sireh (Kota Bharu district), Kg Kelar, Kg Sakar, Air Mulih (Pasir Mas district) as well as Kg Limau Kasturi in Gua Musang.

An update on flood evacuees indicated that 23 people from six families are housed at SK Atas Tol here as of 2pm today. – Bernama, December 17, 2022
