KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin will be venturing into a new career as a radio announcer, weeks after his expulsion from the Barisan Nasional linchpin.

The job, which Khairy will report to on February 15, will see the former Rembau MP join Hot FM’s Bekpes Hot team alongside announcers Mohammad Yazid Lim Mohamad Aziz, better known as Johan; Muhammad Azmir Selamat (AG); and Datuk Mizal Zaini (AC Mizal), who are on air from Monday to Friday, between 6am and 10am.

According to a report by Berita Harian, Media Prima Audio had confirmed the appointment, with its chief executive office Nazri Noran saying that Khairy’s presence will provide listeners with a fresh experience.

“The contents of the segment will be adjusted to be relevant and comedic while providing listeners with a positive aura,” Nazri was quoted as saying.

Hot FM had also posted a video clip of this morning’s segment, during which the hosts had called up Khairy to inquire whether he would be joining them.

“On, let’s go,” the former health minister said when questioned on whether he will be a new face in the team.

On January 27, Khairy was sacked from Umno as part of an internal purge initiated by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to cleanse the party of supposed dissenters.

Although official reasons for Khairy’s axing have yet to be disclosed, his removal is believed to be related to remarks calling for Zahid’s resignation after Umno suffered its worst electoral performance since its formation. – The Vibes, February 9, 2023
