KUALA LUMPUR – Lawyer Zaid Ibrahim will make a bid for a seat on the Umno Supreme Council in the party’s ongoing polls.

He tweeted his intentions, saying, “Tomorrow, I will submit my application form to contest for an Umno Supreme Council seat.”

Zaid rejoined the party in September last year after quitting it 14 years ago. While out of Umno, he joined PKR for a year, then left to form his own party Kita, only to quit from it and join DAP, where he lasted three years.

While with Umno previously, he was Kota Baru MP for one term.

Umno is currently holding elections for its branches and divisions, while its Supreme Council will be elected on March 18. The party resolved at its annual general meeting last month not to hold contests for the top two posts.

Zaid last year was on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s defence team during the latter’s appeal to the Federal Court to overturn his conviction and sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. – The Vibes, February 22, 2023
