PUTRAJAYA – Bangi has the highest population among the 222 parliamentary constituencies in the country at 691,900 people, according to the Statistics Department’s latest Subnational Statistics of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies (SLA) 2023.
It is followed by Kota Raja with 526,400 persons and Subang with 481,100 people, according to the statistics released yesterday.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, in a statement, said the most densely populated parliamentary constituency is Wangsa Maju, with a total population of 13,224 people per sq km.
This is followed by Pandan, with a population density of 11,442 people per sq km and Jelutong, with 11,361 people, he said.
For population composition according to the main ethnic groups, Uzir said the Setiu parliamentary constituency has a 99.6% Bumiputera population, followed by Hulu Terengganu (99.5%) and Jeli, 99.4%.
Kepong recorded the highest Chinese population at 72.5%, while the highest Indian population was recorded in the Ipoh Barat parliamentary constituency at 25.9%, he added.
“The parliamentary constituencies of Putrajaya, Gua Musang and Tumpat are the three constituencies in Malaysia that recorded the highest percentage of young age population, which are 37.2%, 35.8% and 33.5% respectively,” he said.
The young age population refers to the population aged between 0 and 14 years.
He said three parliamentary constituencies in Selangor recorded the highest percentage of old age population namely Sabak Bernam at 22.4%, Sg Besar (19.7%) and Tg Karang (18.3%).
The old age population refers to the population aged 65 years and over.
The SLA, the second series since 2022, contains indicators such as basic information; population; housing; employment; household income; education; health; poverty; public safety; internet and social media; basic amenities; the number of establishments or businesses and is released for all the 222 constituencies. – Bernama, March 3, 2023
