JOHOR BARU – R.S.N. Rayer (Jelutong-PH) today recommended the government to elevate the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s status into a national icon of unity.

While debating Budget 2023 at the committee stage, the Jelutong MP said that he has made similar demands in the past, but previous governments, including the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration in the past, had refused to do so.

Rayer mentioned that Nik Aziz, who led the Kelantan state government in the past under PAS rule, succeeded in cultivating racial unity.

He said that this is in stark contrast to current MPs, who are quick to make statements which could cause racial tensions.

“There are MPs on the other aisle whose statements can cause disunity.

“I also want to tell the Honourable Pagoh and Marang to please read up on Nik Aziz, because he must be made into an icon of unity.

“When he was Kelantan’s menteri besar, he took care of the people regardless of race,” Rayer told the Dewan Rakyat.

The Jelutong MP also took the opportunity to take a swipe at former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for attacking current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Mahathir, he said, should take a break and allow the Tambun MP to continue running the country.

“I want to take this opportunity to advise the former Langkawi MP who served twice as prime minister.

“He keeps attacking the prime minister…(recently) he said he isn’t confident with the Honourable Tambun’s government.

“Please, Tun, give us a break. Please rest and allow Tambun to carry on working,” Rayer added. – The Vibes, March 14, 2023
