JOHOR BARU – Malaysia is ready to combat Islamophobia with the cooperation of the international community, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Taking to Facebook in light of International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the prime minister said Malaysia joins the rest of the world in a bid to fight religious intolerance.
“This isn’t a day to be celebrated, but a day to remind the international community there is much work to do to fight Islamophobia,” he said.
The Tambun MP also reminded that Muslims all over the globe are preparing for the upcoming month of Ramadhan, urging the international community to embrace moderation and reject extremism.
“Islamophobia, hateful acts, and violence against a person for their beliefs must be rejected.
“Malaysia is ready to work with the international community in a constructive and collective manner to achieve this goal,” Anwar added.
Last month, while tabling Budget 2023, Anwar announced that the government will allocate RM10 million to translate and distribute 20,000 copies of the Quran in Swedish and other major languages.
This move comes after reports of extremist right-wing Swedish-Danish politician, Rasmus Paludan, who burnt a copy of Islam’s holy book outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm on January 21. – The Vibes, March 15, 2023
