KUALA LUMPUR – It is shaping up to be an all-male vice-president line-up for Umno as Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin are looking secure as of midnight.

According to unofficial results shared with the press, Wan Rosdy and Khaled Nordin have garnered votes from 86 and 78 divisions, respectively.

Trailing behind is Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Ghani with votes from 68 divisions, while fourth-placed Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is a long way behind with votes from 44 divisions.

Khaled is the only one defending his post while Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid failed to be re-elected. Former vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob did not contest.

Other vice-president candidates are former Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Hasni Mohammad, and Iskandar Puteri division member Mohd Yusof Musa.

So far, 113 divisions have their ballots accounted for; however, the results for three vice-presidents as well as 25 Supreme Council members are expected to be announced tomorrow.

A total of 189 divisions participated in the party polls.

The tabulation, however, is not based on a simple majority or first past the post.

For the vice-president’s post, each division will have to vote for three names out of eight contenders.

The top three names voted from each division will then be counted as a vote for each contender, according to the polling system practised by Umno. – The Vibes, March 18, 2023
