PUTRAJAYA – Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is undergoing medical treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, confirmed the home minister.

Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Najib had obtained permission from the Prisons Department to allow him to receive treatment for a few days.

“This is a normal request. I was informed by the Prisons director-general that he (Najib) was taken to hospital for treatment,” Saifuddin said at a press conference after his ministry’s monthly assembly here today.

He added that all prisoners have the right to seek treatment and this matter is under the purview of the Prisons Department.

It was reported yesterday that Najib was being treated for a lung infection last Friday but had since been discharged from hospital.

Najib is serving his 12-year jail sentence at Kajang Prison after the Federal Court upheld his guilty conviction and RM210 million fine for misappropriating RM42 million in funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former 1Malaysia Development Bhd subsidiary. – The Vibes, March 22, 2023
