KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will chair a special meeting soon with select officials to ensure follow-up action is taken by Malaysia on the investments pledged by major Chinese companies during his official visit to the republic recently.

Anwar said since the investments involve a number of states in Malaysia, he and the relevant cabinet members will also hold meetings with their state counterparts.

“I plead to the state and local governments to please expedite all processes so that no problems are caused for the companies.

“Rules have to be fully adhered to, but don't take too long, as we need to drive investments,” he said in a press conference following the cabinet meeting this morning.

The states involved are Pahang and Perak, which will welcome investments from Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, and Johor and Terengganu, which will benefit from Rongsheng Petrochemical Co Ltd’s investments.

“Top leaders (from the two firms) plan to visit Malaysia by May to ensure the projects take off earlier than scheduled,” Anwar added.
