KUALA LUMPUR – Former Umno man Khairy Jamaluddin has yet to decide on Bersatu’s offer to join the party and stand in the coming election in six states.
Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris said the offer was made to Khairy by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a meeting after the Umno man was sacked.
Razali told Utusan Malaysia that the offer was for Khairy to run on a Bersatu ticket if the former Rembau MP was still interested in a career in politics.
“However, there are a number of conditions attached. He must submit a Bersatu membership form, and the seat he contests will be determined by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership.
“He has to agree with the party’s decision on him contesting in which seat, either in Selangor or Negri Sembilan.
“Khairy has asked for more time before coming to a decision.”
Khairy is not short on offers, as he is being courted by other parties.
Currently, he is a radio presenter, a Johor youth adviser, and on Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club’s board of directors.
Razali, who is also Terengganu Bersatu chief, said the party is ready to open its doors to Umno leaders if they can further strengthen his party.
Aside from Khairy, Umno sacked its Selangor chief, Tan Sri Noh Omar, and suspended Sembrong MP and former party vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan for six years. – The Vibes, April 21, 2023
