JOHOR BARU – MCA affirms its support for the unity government and will play its part in strengthening the economy, said party president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong.
The Ayer Hitam MP’s comments are in response to an article by The Vibes today claiming that there are attempts to topple the administration led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Taking to Facebook via video, Wee said that the article relies on anonymous sources and the allegations in the publication were made without basis.
“Today, an English-language portal reported on a piece of shocking news. It suggests I am involved in a conspiracy.
“The news relies on an unnamed source without basis and says that there is an attempt to overthrow Anwar’s government,” Wee said.
The MCA president said that he is unaware of any such efforts to overthrow the government, and questioned how he and Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng were named in the article.
He added that the allegations also lack logic, given that MCA would not support any attempts to overthrow the government by sacrificing their parliamentarians to force by-elections.
“For me, anyone can write any rumours they want. But as MCA president I view this matter seriously.
“The media should base their news on verified information and present their evidence.
“We didn’t even know there are such efforts (to topple the government), so how were Jeck Seng and I named in the article?” Wee asked.
Earlier today, The Vibes published an article regarding the opposition’s attempts to overthrow the government through forced by-elections.
It was reported that Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs were being wooed by key individuals to quit their party allegiances and sacrifice their seats.
Citing a source, it was revealed that at least 12 BN lawmakers were targeted in the conspiracy to wrest away the unity government. – The Vibes, April 24, 2023
