POLICE are conducting a thorough investigation to identify the cause of death of a female student who was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory, in Papar, Sabah, last Wednesday.
The 13-year-old victim, who was also a resident of a secondary school dormitory in the district, is believed to have fallen from a building before being found at about 3am.
Papar District Police Chief, Superintendent Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said police received a report on the incident at 8.16am.
He said the victim was then immediately sent to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I), Kota Kinabalu, for further treatment.
“However, the victim was confirmed dead at about 1pm yesterday,” he said in a media statement, today.
According to him, a thorough investigation is currently underway to identify the exact cause of the incident.
He urged the public not to draw any speculations that could disrupt the investigation process and to respect the privacy and feelings of the victim's grieving family.
