FORMER aide to Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Chai Jin Shern, also known as James Chai, has expressed his readiness to fully cooperate with investigators despite claiming that he has yet to receive any formal notice from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

In a statement, Chai — who is currently being sought by the MACC — said the first communication he received from individuals claiming to represent the commission came late on March 5 via WhatsApp.

According to Chai, two separate messages were sent at 11:31 pm and 11:50 pm Malaysian time from phone numbers purporting to belong to MACC officers.

“Before these messages, I had not received any form of communication explicitly mentioning the MACC nor any formal notice,” he said.

The messages were sent from accounts using the usernames “~Radio” and “~دمحم علي”, both requesting that he attend the MACC to provide statements. However, Chai noted that the messages listed different officers’ names despite containing similar requests.

He said the messages marked the first time he had received communication through channels claiming to represent the MACC.

Chai added that he routinely blocks suspicious or unknown phone numbers due to the high incidence of fraud and scam cases in Malaysia, particularly those involving individuals impersonating government authorities.

Among the types of usernames, he said he typically blocks are accounts bearing names such as “~Ghuuu”, “Lii Ya”, “~Muhmmad Alif Z ❤❤”, and “~Mryana Zaa”.

Chai said he had been waiting for a formal notice from the MACC so that proper arrangements could be made for him to provide statements to assist the investigation.

He said he first became aware that the commission was seeking him after the MACC issued a “Notice to Trace Individuals” on March 4, which was widely circulated publicly.

Following the notice, Chai said he appointed two experienced lawyers to represent him and liaise with the authorities.

“I have already provided my legal team with the email address of MACC officer Mohd Hafidz Abdul Halim, which appeared in the notice, as well as the contact numbers of investigating officers listed in the commission’s official statement released on March 6,” he said.

According to Chai, his lawyers will reach out to the MACC to arrange a session for him to provide his statements, to ensure the investigation proceeds professionally and impartially.

“Once again, I am ready to provide full cooperation to the MACC lawfully and professionally,” he added.

The MACC has yet to disclose full details of the investigation, but has indicated that Chai is required to assist in its probe into alleged irregularities involving ARM Holding. – March 6, 2026
