THAI authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 205kg of methamphetamine worth RM12.26 million into Malaysia after four people were arrested in several raids.
The arrests were carried out by the Region 9 Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Hat Yai Police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board Region 9 on Friday and Sunday.
A spokesman for the Region 9 Narcotics Suppression Bureau said police first received information last Friday about several packages suspected of containing drugs being sent through a courier service.
He said a man was arrested at about 9.30 am after he arrived at a courier company in Ban Phru to collect the packages using a pickup truck.
“Several packages containing methamphetamine were found during the inspection. Further investigations led to the arrest of two more suspects at their homes in Khuan Lang,” he said.
The spokesman said the first suspect had been tasked with delivering the drugs to the other two suspects.
One of the suspects later admitted to making three previous deliveries involving 800kg of methamphetamine to an associate in Narathiwat, for which he was paid between RM19,622 and RM24,528.
Investigations also found that a woman was travelling from Narathiwat to collect the drugs.
Police later arrested the 62-year-old woman while she was driving a pickup truck along Kanchanawanit Road on Sunday.
The woman told investigators that the 205kg shipment was meant to be taken to Tak Bai Pier in Narathiwat before being smuggled into Malaysia through Pengkalan Kubor in Tumpat, Kelantan. – August 18, 2026
