7-year-old dies after alleged abuse by mum, stepdad

MELAKA – A 7-year-old died in Taman Krubong Jaya here yesterday following alleged abuse by his mother and stepfather.

State contingent police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohd Sukri Kaman said the boy allegedly drowned in a tub at home in the 4pm incident.

He said preliminary investigations found physical injuries on the child’s body.

The boy’s mother and stepfather, aged 32 and 38, respectively, have been detained.

“About 4pm yesterday, the Melaka Tengah district police operations room received a call from a man, who said his son had drowned at their house in Taman Krubong Jaya,” Sukri told Bernama today.

“Checks at the scene showed the 7-year-old victim had bruises and injuries on several parts of the body.”

He said the body was taken to Melaka Hospital’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem, and that the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. – Bernama, January 30, 2021
