KOTA KINABALU – Sabah police have not received any reports of a fraud case related to a sand-mining company linked to an assemblyman from the state’s ruling alliance, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
State police commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the force has not received any information regarding such a matter.
“At this point, we haven’t received any police report yet over the said cheating case,” he told The Vibes.
A web portal had on Wednesday reported a Sabah couple as accusing an unnamed GRS state assemblyman of conning them out of a partnership in a sand-mining firm.
Henry Chia Chi Tshung and his wife, Chan Yee Ling, said they had entered into a partnership with the assemblyman, who was a political Youth leader, in 2018.
The couple said they had paid RM3.5 million after the politician sold 51% of his stake in the mining company to them, and signed a deal agreement on June 15, 2018.
“The politician also promised to carry out the shares transaction a month after the letter of understanding was signed.
“The politician later asked for a deposit and he took RM2.4 million from us,” the couple said in a statement, according to the report.
But after the 14th general election in May 2018, the politician tried to persuade them to leave the company for their own good, they said.
Suspecting something amiss, on March 6, 2019, the couple visited the office of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) here.
They said they then discovered that they had been sacked as directors of the firm, and the 10% stake they had held had been transferred to another person without their knowledge or consent.
The couple then lodged an official report with CCM on March 8, 2019 and a police report over their dismissal as directors in the mining firm.
The politician reportedly sent representatives to contact the couple with an assurance to settle the issue. However, there has been no news on the matter since then. – The Vibes, April 23, 2021
