MELAKA – The Umno Supreme Council will meet on Thursday to discuss Melaka’s political crisis, said secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

“State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and caretaker chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali will present to the Supreme Council all recommendations and measures on what must be done after this,” he told reporters after meeting state Umno liaison committee members in Klebang last night.

“Of course, the president (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) and deputy president (Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan), as well as the prime minister (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob), will give their views on the political situation in Melaka.”

Melaka Speaker Rauf on October 5 said Governor Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam decided to dissolve the state assembly the day prior, paving the way for an election.

This came after assemblymen Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sg Udang-BN), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor-BN), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu-independent) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas-Bersatu) pulled their support for the chief minister.

Asked about the number of seats to be contested and the candidates who will be fielded, Ahmad said the matter is still being discussed. – Bernama, October 11, 2021
