KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Isham Jalil said Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is under police investigation for an alleged defamatory remark on the purported PASLeaks documents in April this year.

Isham, through a brief Facebook post, said police informed him of their intentions to rope Sanusi in for questioning, after the latter linked Isham with the documents.

“Defamatory politics is old politics. We need to clean up Malaysian politics from defamation towards more positive and mature politics,” Isham, who is a close associate of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said.

“There are many other matters that involve government policies and the economy that we need to focus on and solve to assist the people.”

Isham, who is also an Umno member, said he hopes action against Sanusi will serve as an example and lesson to other high-ranking politicians to be more responsible when issuing statements.

He said this will ensure they do not defame or affect others.

In April, Sanusi had alleged that the documents being passed off as leaked minutes would only benefit certain parties, naming Isham as one of the supposed benefactors.

Sanusi also claimed the Selangor BN information chief was someone capable of producing the purportedly leaked documents.

On April 28, Isham lodged a police report against the menteri besar for defaming him, and then issued a warning for Sanusi to apologise or face legal action.

Subang Jaya police chief Abd Khalid Othman told The Vibes that checks into the case are underway, without detailing the status of the case. – The Vibes, June 7, 2022
