KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Wanita Bersatu chief Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun has called for the party to contest for six parliamentary seats in the upcoming 15th general election.
Azizah, who is also Beaufort MP, said the party will not compromise with others in contesting the six seats.
The seats, she said, include Kudat, Beaufort, Sipitang, Ranau, Beluran and Libaran.
The current MPs, namely Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Beaufort (Azizah), Yamani Hafez Musa (Sipitang), Datuk Jonathan Yasin (Ranau), Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran) and Datuk Zakaria Edris (Libaran).
Except for Yasin, who won the Ranau seat on a PKR ticket, the other MPs won their seats via Umno ticket in the 14th general election in 2018.
Bersatu had not existed in Sabah until April 2019. The five Umno MPs who abandoned Umno in December 2018 joined Bersatu later.
“Sabah Wanita Bersatu will not compromise on any seats they currently held in the last election. It is right for us to defend these seats,” she said in a statement, today.
The six seats clash with the 14 seats that Sabah Umno also plans to defend in the next election.
Azizah said the Bersatu women’s wing has already beefed up its presence in the constituencies via the party machinery in preparation for the election, which is expected to be called anytime. – The Vibes, August 10, 2022
