KUALA LUMPUR – Two Wanita Umno division leaders have been temporarily suspended by the party following allegations that they supported candidates from rival parties.

According to Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, the suspension applies to all positions held by the two women in the party, whether at the branch or division level.

The women in question are Arau Wanita Umno chief Datin Seri Shamsiah Yasin and Maran Wanita Umno chief Datin Seri Fatima Kassim.

“The suspension is in accordance with Clause 10.15 of Umno’s constitution.

“There are valid complaints regarding the behaviour and tendencies of the two Wanita Umno division leaders being involved either directly or indirectly in supporting the candidate of the opposing party in the 15th general election,” he said today.

More details and charges will be made available soon, Ahmad said, when the complaint is brought up to the party’s disciplinary board.

Activities involving all political groups, he added, will be watched closely during the election campaign to root out any potential acts of sabotage against candidates or parties.

Shamsiah is the wife of Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, the incumbent for the Arau parliamentary seat, while Fatima is the wife of Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib, the incumbent for the Maran parliamentary seat.

Both men were expelled from Umno after announcing that they would run in 15th general election on the Perikatan Nasional ticket. – The Vibes, November 13, 2022
