SANDAKAN – People in Sabah want stability more than they want change, which is why Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said he is confident that GRS-BN will secure most of the seats in the state.
“The mood of the voters is with the GRS-BN state government. This is not only true in Libaran, but in all eight seats that I have gone to (to campaign)…the people want stability,” he said.
Bung Moktar said this at a press conference after a BN campaign talk in Mile 7 here yesterday, in support of Umno’s Libaran candidate, Datuk Suhaimi Nasir.
“If we (the people) vote for the wrong candidate who would in the end become a member of the opposition, then it is the people who would be at a loss,” he added.
Speaking about Libaran, Bung Moktar said he feels that Libaran has the highest winning chance for BN in Sabah.
“Honestly speaking, Libaran is the strongest. But this does not mean that we (Umno members) should stop working.
“Stopping all efforts because of overconfidence is a recipe for failure,” he told the crowd.
Suhaimi, who had lost the Gum-Gum state seat to Warisan in the 2020 Sabah election and is now a state nominated assemblyman, appeared confident, with over 1,000 people attending the function yesterday.
He is up against PH’s Peter Jr Naintin from Upko, Sh Bokrata Sh Hassan (Warisan), Nordin Khani (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah), and Amdan @ Saban Tumpong (independent).
There are 71,375 registered voters in Libaran according to the Election Commission’s latest data.
Meanwhile, Bung Moktar said he has not even given any speech in Kinabatangan after nomination day because he has been busy helping out at other BN and GRS campaigns.
“Our machinery in Kinabatangan is still running. I know that the people in Kinabatangan would understand that as a leader, I have a responsibility to help other candidates,” he said. – The Vibes, November 13, 2022
